Fresh bomb threat disrupts Rajasthan High Court proceedings ahead of CJI visit

Jaipur, Feb 20: The Jaipur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court received another bomb threat on Friday morning, prompting a security alert and briefly disrupting court proceedings.

An email warning authorities to “cancel the CJI’s visit” and clear the High Court premises by noon, claiming RDX explosives had been planted, triggered an immediate response from security agencies. A comprehensive search of the court complex was carried out, but no suspicious objects were found. Proceedings resumed at 11 a.m., about 30 minutes behind schedule.

This marks the 10th bomb threat targeting the Jaipur Bench since October 31, 2025. A similar email was received on Thursday, leading to another sweep by security personnel, including the bomb squad and dog squad, which also found nothing incriminating.

The latest threat came ahead of the scheduled visit of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, who is set to inaugurate a three-day cybersecurity seminar at the Rajasthan International Centre.

Authorities have expressed concern over the repeated misuse of digital platforms to issue hoax threats. Cyber law experts noted that such emails are often routed through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), which mask IP addresses. However, they pointed out that VPN service providers maintain internal logs, and with proper legal cooperation, investigators can trace the source.

The repeated threats have raised serious concerns about security and the misuse of cyber tools to disrupt judicial functioning.
