Kundapur: Toddler killed, couple injured as car overturns into drain near Shankaranarayana

Kundapur, Feb 22: In a tragic road mishap reported from Balkatte in Amparu village near Shankaranarayana on February 21 evening, a two-and-a-half-year-old child lost her life after the car in which she was travelling overturned into a roadside drain. The child’s parents sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The deceased child has been identified as Ayanya (2½), daughter of Raghavendra Acharya and Tulasi. The couple, who suffered severe injuries in the mishap, have been admitted to a private hospital in Kundapura for treatment.

According to sources, the car was proceeding towards Siddapura on the Kundapura–Shivamogga State Highway when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car is said to have veered off the road, crashed into a roadside drain and overturned.

All three occupants of the car sustained grievous injuries. Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted them to hospital. However, the critically injured toddler is said to have succumbed to her injuries while being taken for medical care.

A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station, and further investigation is under way.
