Bantwal: Annual Lenten Retreat 2026 spiritually enriches faithful at Mother of God Church, Mogarnad

Media Release

Bantwal, Feb 22: The parishioners of Mother of God Church, Mogarnad experienced a time of spiritual renewal through a three-day annual retreat held from February 19 to 21. The retreat was meaningfully preached and animated by Fr Roshan D’Cunha, director of YCS of the diocese of Mangalore, and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, director of Family Life Service Centre, Mangaluru.

During these three days of the retreat, the priests brought spiritual awareness to the faithful through reflections on the Word of God. On the first day, detailed teaching was given on the holy Eucharist. The priests explained that the Eucharist is the living presence of god and the central foundation of our spiritual life and the unity of the church.

On the second day, teachings were given on mortal sin and worldly desires. The priests explained in a touching manner how sin separates us from god and from our brothers and sisters, and how we can return to god’s mercy. They emphasised the importance of repentance (Metanoia) and turning away from sin to return to god’s embrace. Through adoration and devotional hymns, the hearts of the people were drawn closer to god.

The final day of the retreat was especially significant. It began with the celebration of the holy Mass. Special importance was given to family life during the retreat. The priests highlighted the importance of unity within families and the vital role of prayer in family life. Parents were encouraged to raise their children in faith and good values, while children were reminded to respect and honour their parents. As this year is being observed as the “Year of Children,” special prayers and blessings were offered for children during the adoration. Prayers were made seeking god’s grace for their bright future and spiritual growth.

The parish priest, Fr Anil Canute D’Mello, expressed gratitude to the retreat preachers and to all who contributed to the success of the retreat. Through this three-day spiritual retreat, the parish community was spiritually renewed and prepared to participate more meaningfully in god’s love and in the celebrations of Easter.
