New Delhi, Feb 24: In a pre-dawn operation on Tuesday, the Delhi Police arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, National President of the Indian Youth Congress, in connection with the shirtless protest staged on the concluding day of the AI Summit.

Sources said Chib was taken into custody at around 4.30 am after being questioned for nearly 20 hours. His arrest marks the eighth in the case linked to the protest.

He has reportedly been booked under charges including criminal conspiracy, voluntarily causing harm to a public servant, obstructing a public servant from performing duty, and wilful disobedience.

Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil confirmed the arrest, stating that Chib had been in police custody for several hours and was likely to be produced before a court after 10 am.

While senior Congress leaders have publicly acknowledged the development and criticised the action, the Delhi Police has so far not issued an official statement regarding the arrest.

The shirtless protest, held on the final day of the AI Summit, had drawn attention and triggered political sparring, with opposition leaders alleging high-handedness by authorities.

Further legal proceedings in the case are awaited.
