Absconding accused held at Mangaluru airport on return from abroad

Bantwal, Feb 25: An accused who had been absconding abroad and failing to appear before court for nearly two years was arrested at Mangaluru International Airport upon his return on February 24.

The arrested has been identified as Ibrahim Batees, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal taluk. He is an accused in Crime No. 193/2019 registered at Vittal police station under Sections 427, 504, 394 and 341 of the IPC, along with Section 2(A) of the Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act.

According to police, the accused had not appeared before the competent court for trial and had reportedly been staying abroad to evade proceedings.

Acting on information about his arrival from overseas, Vittal police, with the assistance of the immigration authorities at Mangaluru International Airport, detained him at the airport. He was arrested by Vittal police.

The accused was later produced before the jurisdictional judge, who remanded him to judicial custody till March 7.
