Media Release

Bantwal, Mar 1: The inauguration of the Pontifical Missionary Children’s Association (PMCA) was solemnly celebrated on Sunday, March 1, at Mother of God Church, Mogarnad, marking a significant milestone in nurturing missionary spirit among the children of the parish. The celebration commenced with the inauguration, symbolizing the official establishment of the association in the parish.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Parish Pastoral Council vice president Noel Lobo, secretary Wilfred Lobo, coordinator for Pastoral Commissions Seema Maria D’Cunha, convenor of the Liturgy Commission Roshan Barboza, and animator Hilda Tauro. This was followed by the distribution of badges to the children who enrolled as members of the association, encouraging them to actively participate in missionary activities and Christian formation.

The holy Eucharistic celebration

The holy Eucharistic celebration formed the central part of the inauguration. Fr Harry D’Souza, spiritual director of St Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary, was the main celebrant. He was joined by Fr Anil Canute D’Mello, parish priest; Fr Naveen Pinto, principal of Dev Matha English Medium School; and Deacon Avil Santhumayor as co-celebrants.

During his homily, Fr Harry D’Souza emphasized the Christian responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel in daily life. He encouraged the faithful, especially the children, to preach the good news through their words and actions and to proclaim Christ, the messiah, among their neighbours, friends and family members. He highlighted that missionary work begins at home through living authentic Christian values and witnessing Christ through love and service.

Training programme

Following the holy Mass, Fr Harry D’Souza delivered an introductory session for the aspiring members from classes IV to IX from 9:30 to 10 am. There were 75 aspiring members present during the session.

In his talk, he explained the objectives and mission of the Pontifical Missionary Children’s Association and spoke about how the Church strives to instil missionary zeal and love for evangelization in Catholic children from an early age. He further stressed that missionary spirit is nurtured through simple daily acts such as respecting parents, loving one another, forgiving others, praying regularly and making small sacrifices with joy. These small yet meaningful actions, he noted, help children grow as true disciples of Christ and witnesses to the Gospel.
