Paris, Mar 3: Kylian Mbappe was in Paris on Monday to undergo treatment for a knee injury, but no surgery is planned at this stage, his entourage confirmed.
The Real Madrid forward is being treated for a sprain in his left knee under the supervision of specialist doctors in the French capital, in coordination with the club’s medical staff.

In a statement, Madrid said, “After tests carried out on our player Kylian Mbappe by French specialist doctors, under the supervision of Real Madrid’s Medical Services, the diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, as well as the suitability of the conservative treatment currently being followed.”
Mbappe’s camp clarified that the striker was in Paris accompanied by members of the club’s medical team and that the approach to treatment was agreed upon by all parties. “In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment,” the statement said.
The French captain has reportedly been struggling with an issue to the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025 and missed last week’s UEFA Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica due to persistent pain in training.
Madrid were also without their top scorer for Monday’s clash against Getafe CF.
Coach Alvaro Arbeloa said last week that the decision for Mbappe to rest was a consensus. “We think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100 percent. It’s not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but hopefully not too long,” he said.
It remains uncertain whether Mbappe, who has netted 38 goals in 33 appearances this season, will feature in the Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City, with the first leg scheduled for March 11 and the return leg on March 17.
The France national football team are set to play friendlies against Brazil national football team in Boston on March 26 and Colombia national football team in Washington three days later.
France will open their World Cup campaign on June 16 against Senegal national football team, and will be hoping their talisman returns to full fitness in time for the global showpiece.
