New Delhi, Mar 9: Delhi Police have taken four juveniles into custody in connection with the alleged assault on a Manipuri woman and her transgender friend from Assam in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening near the court complex in Malviya Nagar when the victims were walking in a local park. According to police, the group of boys allegedly hurled racially offensive remarks at them. When the woman objected, the situation escalated into a verbal confrontation that turned physical, with the victims claiming they were punched and struck with belts while being subjected to abusive slurs. Sources indicated that the pair had faced similar harassment in the area on previous occasions.

A police team responded promptly to the report, conducting raids in the locality which led to the apprehension of all four accused, who are juveniles. They have been taken into custody for further questioning, and legal proceedings are being initiated in accordance with laws governing minors.
The injured woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. Police are recording statements from the victims and said further action will follow based on the ongoing investigation.
The incident has drawn criticism from leaders, with Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma describing the assault as “sickening.” In a post on X, he condemned repeated attacks on people from the Northeast in mainland India and called for stringent measures to prevent racial harassment. “Racial bullying should not be accepted as the new normal and we must act against it,” he stated.
