Indian embassy warns nationals in Iran against travel via land borders without coordination

Daijiworld Media Network – Tehran

Tehran, Mar 9: The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued an urgent advisory for Indian nationals residing in or travelling through Iran, cautioning them against approaching land borders for travel to third countries without prior coordination.

In an official statement released on Monday, March 9, the embassy emphasized that any movement towards land border points should only be undertaken after obtaining explicit guidance from the diplomatic mission.

Restrictions on assistance

The embassy clarified that it would not be in a position to extend assistance once individuals have exited Iranian territory and find themselves unable to enter the neighbouring country. This warning comes as a measure to prevent Indian citizens from being stranded in "no-man's land" or facing legal complications at international border crossings.

Emergency helplines

The mission remains available to guide Indian nationals through dedicated emergency contact helplines. Citizens in need of assistance or clarification regarding their travel plans can contact the embassy via the following channels:

  • Mobile Numbers: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, +98 993 217 9359

  • Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

The advisory suggests that the current regional situation requires Indian nationals to exercise caution and maintain constant communication with the embassy before planning any cross-border road travel from Iran.
