IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers steps down; Rahul Bhatia to oversee operations

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 10: IndiGo chief executive officer Pieter Elbers has stepped down from his position, months after the airline faced a major operational disruption that left hundreds of passengers stranded across multiple airports, according to a Reuters report.

The airline said its managing director Rahul Bhatia will oversee the company’s operations on an interim basis until a new chief executive is appointed.

Elbers, who took charge of IndiGo in 2022, led the carrier during a phase of rapid expansion, strengthening both its domestic and international networks. However, the airline also came under scrutiny earlier this year after a widespread operational disruption resulted in several flight delays, cancellations and passenger complaints.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, operates one of the country’s most extensive flight networks across domestic and international destinations.
