Russian Election Commission Website Hacked

Moscow, Mar 5 (IANS/RIA Novosti): The website of Russia's Central Election Commission came under hacker attack from within Russia and abroad during the presidential election, a top official said.

The commission's deputy head Leonid Ivlev said: "It was varied and of long duration, but does not present any problem to the CEC server. They want to damage its defence."

He said the attacks came from as far away as Western Europe and even Australia as well as from Russia and the former Soviet states.

"Our main task now is to hold onto the collected data from all the polling stations and regional election commissions," he added.
