Gulf conflict impacts coastal tourism, travel drops in March

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The ongoing conflict in the Gulf region has affected tourism activities along the coast. Due to disruptions in flight services between Mangaluru International Airport at Bajpe and Gulf countries, and the suspension of air connectivity to some Arab nations, the number of tourists visiting the coast as well as those travelling from here to Gulf countries has seen a significant decline in March.

As schools and colleges remain closed during this period, the number of people travelling abroad generally increases from March to May. However, this year many travellers have cancelled tickets that had been booked for trips to Arab and European countries.

Muslims working in Gulf countries are also unable to return to their hometowns during the month of Ramzan. As a result, tourism industry sources said that the number of travellers going abroad from the region and those arriving here from Arab countries has dropped considerably.
