Mangaluru, Mar 21: In a significant breakthrough, the City Crime Branch (CCB) of the Mangaluru city police commissionerate has apprehended a habitual offender who had been evading law enforcement for nearly two years after repeatedly failing to appear before the court in multiple criminal cases.

The arrested accused, identified as Faraz alias Mohammed Faraz (32), a resident of Deralakatte, had allegedly been involved in a string of serious offences across the city. Police said he had gone into hiding after securing bail, deliberately skipping court proceedings and remaining untraceable until his capture.

According to officials, Faraz is linked to around 10 criminal cases registered at various police stations in Mangaluru. The charges against him span a wide spectrum of offences, including robbery, attempt to murder, drug peddling, theft, and even assaulting prison officials while obstructing them from discharging their duties.

Breaking down the cases, police revealed that Ullal Police Station alone has four cases against him, covering attempt to murder, robbery, assault, and theft. Konaje police station has registered two cases involving assault, criminal intimidation, and theft.

At Mangaluru North police station, he faces two cases related to assault, threats, kidnapping, and robbery.

A case at Barke police station pertains to attempt to murder while obstructing public servants on duty, while Urva Police Station has booked him in a drug trafficking case.

Described by police as a 'rowdy-sheeter' at Ullal police station, Faraz had six non-bailable warrants and one proclamation pending against him at the time of his arrest, underscoring the extent of his evasion.

Following his arrest, he has been handed over to Urva Police Station for further legal proceedings.
