Chinchinim, Mar 24: Alert residents of Chinchinim caught a vehicle red-handed while dumping bailed waste near the Digaum bandh on Sunday evening, exposing lapses in waste disposal practices.

The incident came to light when local resident Joe Dias noticed a jeep unloading waste in the area, leaving him shocked. He immediately alerted other locals and panchayat members, following which the matter was reported to the Cuncolim police.

Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas said the episode highlights that waste is not being disposed of scientifically despite being collected by contractors. He termed the incident a wake-up call for agencies such as the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Goa Waste Management Corporation to put in place stricter monitoring mechanisms.

Assuring action, the sarpanch said hefty fines would be imposed on those responsible and urged the Cuncolim police to initiate stringent measures to deter such violations in the future.
