Kolkata, Mar 24: Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Rinku Singh as their vice-captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.

The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer for KKR since joining the franchise in 2018, earning recognition for his explosive batting and sharp fielding. Announcing the decision, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said the franchise was “delighted” to elevate Rinku to a leadership role.

KKR will be led this season by veteran India opener Ajinkya Rahane and will kick off their campaign against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29.

Their first home game is scheduled against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens on April 2, followed by matches against Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 and 9 respectively.

Meanwhile, the franchise is conducting trials during its pre-season camp to identify replacements for injured pacers, with players like Navdeep Saini, Akash Madhwal, Simarjeet Singh, Sandeep Warrier, KM Asif, and Sunil Kumar participating.

Earlier, KKR had brought in Saurabh Dubey as a replacement for injured pacer Akash Deep, who was ruled out due to a lower back stress reaction.

Dubey, who previously had a brief stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, is yet to make his IPL debut but has experience with India A and domestic cricket for Vidarbha.

With leadership clarity and squad adjustments underway, KKR will look to mount a strong title defence in the upcoming season.
