Gas shortage hits Chinchwad areas, residents allege black marketing

Pune, Mar 25: Residents in several areas of Chinchwad are facing severe hardship due to delays in supply of domestic LPG cylinders, with many alleging negligence and possible black marketing by gas agencies.

Citizens from Shahunagar, Chikhali, Sambhajinagar and Purnanagar said that even after booking cylinders as per norms, they are not receiving delivery on time. Consumers are required to wait nearly 30 days to place a booking, but even after booking, deliveries are reportedly delayed by 8 to 10 days without any clear communication.

The supply of Bharat Gas in these areas was earlier handled by Raka Gas Agency in Chinchwad. However, around 15 days ago, all connections were suddenly shifted to Anusaya Gas Agency without prior intimation to customers, worsening the situation.

Residents have alleged that hoarding and black marketing by agencies could be the reason behind the shortage.

Chinchwad supply officer Dr Vijaykumar said that multiple complaints have been received against Anusaya and Ratan Gas agencies. “An inquiry will be conducted, and strict action will be taken if any irregularities are found,” he said.

Frustrated residents shared their ordeal. A homemaker from Shahunagar said she had booked a cylinder on March 17 and received a message stating it was out for delivery, but had not received it even after eight days. “Calls to the agency go unanswered,” she complained.

Another resident, Lalit Shirodkar, said he has been waiting for over 10 days after booking. “Whenever the delivery vehicle arrives, I rush there, but I am told my cylinder has not come. I am currently managing by borrowing from a friend,” he said.

Residents have urged authorities to intervene and ensure timely supply of LPG cylinders.
