Mumbai, Mar 26: Mumbai based Vel-Vin Company, a renowned corrugated manufacturing firm based in Greater Mumbai and led by chairman and managing director Vincent Mathias, a native of Attur in Karkala, has been honoured with the prestigious 'India’s Fastest Growing MSME' award by The Economic Times.
The award was presented at a grand ceremony held last Wednesday at the Le Méridien New Delhi, recognising Velvin’s remarkable growth and contribution to the manufacturing sector.

Distinguished guests present at the event included Embassy of Denmark in India first secretary Mathias Emil Bengtsson, Care Ratings Limited assistant directors Sajni Shah and Jignesh Trivedi during the ceremony, chairman and managing director Vincent Mathias and director Vernon Mathias were felicitated with a certificate of honour and an award plaque in recognition of the company’s outstanding achievements.
Vel-Vin’s journey began in 1987 with a corrugation unit - but it was never meant to remain just a small beginning.
Over the years, they became pioneers in corrugation manufacturing in India, building a strong presence with four manufacturing units across the country. Their growth and capabilities reached a point where they attracted foreign direct investment (FDI), leading to a joint venture with a Japanese company and the establishment of their fourth facility in Chennai - a milestone that firmly placed them on the global packaging map.
As this journey evolved, the second generation - sons Vernon Mathias and Vartan Mathias - joined the business, further strengthening and expanding the vision for what they could build together.
A defining moment in this journey was winning the World Corrugated Award for Best Plant in 2019 at Sino Corrugation, Shanghai. Standing there, I felt a deep sense of pride - representing India on a global stage and showcasing what Indian manufacturing is truly capable of.
Five years ago, they set out with a clear vision - to build a world-class, sustainable packaging company that could serve global markets, not just India. With that vision, they expanded and diversified into paper bag manufacturing and food packaging solutions, backed by a strong focus on world-class infrastructure and execution excellence. At the time, they could not have fully anticipated the scale at which this journey would unfold.
In a short span, they established themselves as a global player - supplying to 6 continents and exporting over 1,000 containers annually. They were recognised as an Export House by the government of India, and also honoured with the FIEO Award for Highest Foreign Exchange Earner from Goa.
And last night marked yet another proud milestone - this company, built over just five years as part of the larger Vel-Vin Group, was honoured with the Economic Times Award for India’s Fastest Growing MSME (Medium Category). What makes this recognition special is not just the award, but the pace and quality of what has been built - and the belief that has driven it.
This achievement belongs to every hand that built this company - their operators, drivers, and team across generations. It belongs to their customers who trusted an Indian manufacturer to deliver global standards. And to the family - especially Vernon and Vartan - for carrying this legacy forward with passion and new vision.
Vel-Vin is in the business of sustainable packaging, but what they truly package is trust. And last night, that trust was recognised.
