Patna, March 28: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police in Patna have seized a large quantity of brown sugar along with raw materials used in its production, with the total haul estimated to be worth around Rs 25 crore, officials said on Saturday.
Confirming the development, Kartikeya Sharma said the investigation was part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region. Acting on intelligence, police conducted a raid in the Alamganj area, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of 1.6 kg of brown sugar, along with cash.

During interrogation, the accused revealed the existence of a larger, factory-like setup involved in processing the ????????. A follow-up raid led to the recovery of approximately 20 kg of raw materials and additional contraband. In total, police seized around 21.018 kg of high-quality brown sugar, along with weapons, ammunition, and financial documents such as signed and blank cheques.
Sharma stated that investigations are now focused on tracing the entire network, including suppliers and distributors. “We are working on both backward and forward linkages and will soon make further arrests,” he said.
He also disclosed that the name of a Bihar Police personnel has surfaced during the probe. The individual is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
The crackdown follows a recent operation in Samastipur district, where a joint team of police and the narcotics cell busted a drug trafficking network and seized heroin worth nearly Rs 6 lakh, highlighting the scale of the ongoing fight against narcotics in the state.
