Sameer Rizvi’s blazing 90 powers Delhi Capitals to win over Mumbai Indians

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 4: Sameer Rizvi delivered a sensational knock of 90 off 51 balls to guide the Delhi Capitals to a comfortable six-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

Chasing 163, Delhi found themselves in trouble at 73/3 before Rizvi turned the game on its head with a stunning display of power-hitting. He smashed seven fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 176.47, stitching crucial partnerships of 66 with Pathum Nissanka (44) and 78 with David Miller (21*). The hosts completed the chase with 11 balls to spare.

Rizvi’s seven sixes are now the most by a Delhi Capitals batter against Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Among Impact Players, only Jos Buttler has scored more in a single IPL innings.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted 162/6 on a tricky, two-paced surface, with Suryakumar Yadav top-scoring with 51 and Rohit Sharma contributing 35. However, their spin attack struggled to contain Delhi’s batters, allowing Rizvi to dominate the middle overs.

Delhi’s chase got off to a shaky start. KL Rahul fell early to Deepak Chahar, while Nitish Rana was run out after a mix-up. Nissanka then counterattacked with aggressive stroke play before falling to Mitchell Santner.

Rizvi initially took time to settle but soon unleashed a flurry of attacking shots. His standout moment came in the 11th over, where he hammered Corbin Bosch for 20 runs. He reached his half-century in style with consecutive sixes off Mayank Markande.

Despite efforts from Jasprit Bumrah and Chahar to stem the flow of runs, Rizvi continued his assault, targeting Shardul Thakur with powerful strokes. Miller provided solid support at the other end, ensuring there were no further hiccups.

Rizvi eventually fell just 10 runs short of a well-deserved century, but by then the outcome was all but sealed as Delhi secured their second consecutive win of the season.

Brief Scores:

Mumbai Indians 162/6 (20 overs) — Suryakumar Yadav 51, Rohit Sharma 35; Mukesh Kumar 2/26
Delhi Capitals 164/4 (18.1 overs) — Sameer Rizvi 90, Pathum Nissanka 44; Deepak Chahar 1/20
Delhi Capitals won by six wickets.
