Court recalls arrest warrant against AAP candidate Geetesh Naik in financial dispute case

Panaji, Apr 4: The Merces JMFC Court has recalled the non-bailable warrant issued earlier against Geetesh Naik, observing that he demonstrated a genuine intent to resolve an ongoing financial dispute.

Naik, an AAP candidate in the Ponda by-election, had been facing a non-bailable warrant issued on March 30 after remaining absent during previous hearings in a case pending since 2023. He appeared before the court on Saturday and filed an application seeking cancellation of the warrant and setting aside of the earlier order.

During the hearing, Naik informed the court that he had already made part payment toward the outstanding dues. This was acknowledged by the complainant, Shamsunder Mirajkar. Naik also expressed willingness to clear the remaining amount promptly.

However, the complainant’s counsel stated that the case would not be withdrawn immediately, as there was an intention to pursue legal costs.

Taking note of Naik’s efforts, the court observed that he had shown “bona fide intent” to settle the matter and allowed his application to recall the warrant.

“The accused has shown bona fide intent; thus, this application deserves to be allowed. Issue letter for recall,” the court stated.

While the immediate risk of arrest has been lifted, the case remains ongoing. The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 8.
