Panaji, Sep 11: Police arrested a 24-year-old Nepalese national, Arjun Sharma, in connection with an attempted murder in Panaji, while his alleged accomplice, Ramesh Bahadur, remains absconding.

The victim, Altaf Chapparbanch, 23, a taxi driver and resident of Chimbel, told police that Sharma, who is known to him, called him to a residence in Panaji on Tuesday evening.

When Altaf reached the room, he found a common friend there, while Sharma arrived later along with Bahadur.

According to Altaf, the group was watching television when he allegedly saw Sharma hand over a koita to Bahadur. Sensing danger, he tried to leave the room, but Bahadur allegedly restrained him and attacked him with the weapon.

Police said Altaf suffered injuries to his hands, left shoulder and leg while attempting to defend himself from the attack.

He managed to escape and ran towards Panaji Church, where a passerby alerted the police and called the 108 ambulance service. Altaf was subsequently shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) for treatment.

Altaf alleged that Sharma and Bahadur attacked him due to previous enmity and with an intention to kill him.
