Ahmedabad, Apr 10: A high-level delegation from Commonwealth Sport visited Ahmedabad to assess preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a key step in early coordination efforts for the centenary edition of the event.

The delegation included Ann Louise Morgan and Neil Carney, who toured the Vijayi Bharat Foundation facility to understand its infrastructure and operations.

Accompanied by Olympic medallist Gagan Narang and VBF officials, the team inspected the High-Performance Centre and various sports facilities. They also appreciated the foundation’s grassroots initiative “Khele Sanand” and its focus on promoting gender equity by supporting women athletes.

The visit is part of a broader review led by Donald Rukare, aimed at evaluating infrastructure readiness, timelines and venue suitability in the host city.

The 2030 edition will mark 100 years since the first Commonwealth Games held in Hamilton in 1930. The most recent Games, held in Birmingham in 2022, saw Australia top the medal tally.

Hosting the centenary Games is expected to strengthen India’s ambitions of staging the 2036 Olympics, with Ahmedabad positioned as a key sporting hub for future international events.
