Tehran, Apr 11: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly recovering from severe facial and leg injuries sustained in an airstrike that killed his father at the beginning of the ongoing war, according to three individuals close to his inner circle cited by Reuters.
The sources said Khamenei suffered disfiguring injuries to his face and significant damage to one or both legs after an attack on the Supreme Leader’s compound in central Tehran. They added that the 56-year-old leader is still undergoing recovery but remains mentally alert and actively involved in decision-making through audio conferencing.
According to the reports, he continues to participate in high-level meetings with senior officials and is engaged in key issues including the ongoing conflict and diplomatic negotiations with the United States. However, his physical condition has limited public appearances, with no images, video, or audio recordings released since the incident.

The developments come at a critical time as Iran enters high-stakes peace talks with the United States in Islamabad, aimed at ending weeks of conflict that has destabilised the Middle East and disrupted global energy markets.
Sources further said Khamenei’s health and ability to fully govern remain uncertain, with questions emerging over the extent of his authority during this transitional phase. Analysts noted that while he represents continuity in leadership, it may take time for him to establish the same influence as his predecessor.
Iran has not issued an official statement detailing the extent of his injuries, and its UN mission has not responded to queries on his condition. Meanwhile, U.S. officials and intelligence sources have previously suggested that he may have sustained serious injuries, including the possibility of limb damage.
Experts believe the situation could significantly impact Iran’s internal power structure and decision-making process as the country navigates both conflict and delicate diplomatic negotiations.
