Kolkata, Apr 12: Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, on Sunday outlined an ambitious political goal—defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level—following her party’s expected success in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
Addressing a public gathering in Onda in Bankura district, Banerjee declared that her party is determined not only to retain power in Bengal but also to take the fight to Delhi. She said the approaching Bengali New Year would mark a renewed pledge to politically oust the BJP-led central government.

Highlighting her administration’s performance, Banerjee pointed to large-scale welfare initiatives, including the construction of over 1.3 crore permanent houses. She added that the government’s next focus would be to replace all remaining temporary homes with permanent ones and ensure access to basic amenities like household water connections.
She also accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its electoral promises, alleging that the party makes financial commitments to voters ahead of elections but does not follow through after results are declared. Referring to claims made in other states, Banerjee criticized unfulfilled assurances of direct financial support to women, saying such promises remain unmet.
Taking aim at recent criticism from Amit Shah, who had earlier released a “charge sheet” against her government during a campaign visit, Banerjee responded sharply. She turned the accusation around, claiming that it is the BJP that should be held accountable for damaging democratic institutions and causing hardship to citizens across the country.
