Lucknow, Apr 12: In a commanding all-round performance, the Gujarat Titans defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in their Indian Premier League 2026 match at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 165, Gujarat Titans overhauled the total comfortably, reaching 165/3 in 18.4 overs, thanks to a dominant batting display led by skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler.
GT’s chase began steadily, with Gill and Sai Sudharsan providing a solid foundation. After Sudharsan fell early, Gill took control of the innings, playing a fluent knock of 56 off 40 balls. He particularly dominated the bowling attack during a decisive phase, including a strong over against Mohammed Shami that swung momentum firmly in Gujarat’s favour.

At the other end, Buttler built his innings carefully before unleashing a powerful counterattack. The English batter brought up his 100th T20 half-century in just 34 balls and went on to score a match-winning 60 off 37 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries. Their partnership ensured Gujarat stayed ahead of the required rate throughout the chase.
Despite brief resistance from Lucknow through quick wickets, the target had already been reduced significantly. Rahul Tewatia and Washington Sundar then guided the team home with calm finishing touches, with Sundar remaining unbeaten on 21 off 13 balls.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted 164/8 in 20 overs after a mixed batting performance. Aiden Markram top-scored with 30, while Nicholas Pooran and Abdul Samad failed to convert starts into big scores. A late push from the lower order helped them cross 160, with a final-over flourish adding 18 runs.
The Gujarat bowling attack set the tone, with Prasidh Krishna delivering a standout spell of 4/28, dismantling the middle order. Support came from Mohammed Siraj and Ashok Sharma, who also picked up key wickets at crucial moments.
Brief Score: Lucknow Super Giants 164/8 (Aiden Markram 30; Prasidh Krishna 4-28) lost to Gujarat Titans 165/3 (Jos Buttler 60, Shubman Gill 56) by 7 wickets.
