Goa Congress calls for phased implementation of women’s reservation

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Apr 15: Goa Congress Mahila President Pratiksha Khalap has expressed support for the proposed 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, while cautioning against rushing its implementation without completing key procedural steps.

Speaking at a press briefing, Khalap described women’s reservation as a “need of the hour,” underscoring its importance in improving female representation in governance and decision-making.

At the same time, she stressed that the rollout of such a measure must follow due process. According to her, the policy should be implemented only after the completion of the national census and the delimitation of constituencies to ensure balanced and fair representation across regions.

Her remarks reflect a broader position within the party that, while strongly backing women’s empowerment initiatives, calls for a structured and methodical approach to major electoral reforms.
