Injury concern for Lakers: Doncic could return mid-series against Rockets

Daijiworld Media Network – Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Apr 19: The Los Angeles Lakers could receive a significant boost during their first-round NBA playoff clash, with star guard Luka Doncic reportedly having a chance to return midway through the series against the Houston Rockets.

Doncic is currently recovering from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, sustained towards the end of the regular season, putting his immediate availability in doubt. The Lakers are already dealing with another setback, as Austin Reaves continues to recover from a Grade 2 left oblique injury.

According to reports, the Lakers are preparing to begin the series without both players. Reaves was initially given a recovery timeline of four to six weeks from early April, which could see him return only towards the latter stages of the first round or possibly the second round if the team progresses.

In contrast, no official timeline has been announced for Doncic, though such injuries typically require three to six weeks of recovery. The Slovenian star recently travelled to Spain for specialised treatment and has now rejoined the team in Los Angeles, raising hopes of a possible return during the series.

However, medical caution remains key, as hamstring injuries are prone to aggravation if not fully healed.

Before the injury, Doncic was in exceptional form, averaging 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists across 64 games this season, underlining his importance to the Lakers’ playoff ambitions.

With the Lakers set to face the Rockets in the opening round, the team’s ability to stay competitive in the early games could prove crucial as they await the possible return of their star playmaker.
