Goa assures stable fuel, LPG supply amid tensions

Panaji, Apr 24: Fuel and cooking gas supplies in Goa remain stable and sufficient to meet current demand, State Secretary Sanjiv Gadkar said on Thursday amid concerns arising from the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Addressing a press conference, Gadkar stated that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are closely monitoring the situation and have streamlined logistics to ensure uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across the state.

He said public sector oil firms have prioritised domestic LPG distribution, with around 10,600 cylinders being supplied in Goa—consistent with normal levels prior to the recent geopolitical tensions and adequate to meet current needs.

“OMCs are working in close coordination with the state government and district administration to proactively monitor developments and maintain stable supplies for the public,” he said.

Gadkar also urged consumers to make use of digital platforms such as SMS, missed calls, IVRS and mobile applications for booking LPG refills, and to authenticate deliveries through the Delivery Authentication Code to ensure transparency.

Highlighting alternative energy options, he said Piped Natural Gas (PNG) services are being promoted as a reliable substitute for LPG and are currently available in parts of Panaji, Margao and Ponda.

To support migrant labourers and students who may not have local address proof, OMCs are providing 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders against valid government-issued identification and a declaration.

The official further said regular inspections are being conducted at LPG distributorships to ensure compliance and prevent supply disruptions. Enforcement agencies have also intensified action against hoarding and black marketing.

“As many as 436 enforcement raids have been conducted across Goa so far, and necessary action has been taken wherever irregularities were found,” Gadkar said, adding that these measures are aimed at protecting consumer interests.
