Jaipur, Apr 25: Four people, including two minor girls, were killed in a fire that broke out at a scrap godown in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, police said.

The incident occurred on Friday night in the Neemrana area, where the victims were reportedly trapped inside the warehouse after the blaze spread rapidly.

Superintendent of Police Satvir Singh said four charred bodies were recovered from the site and sent for post-mortem.

The deceased were identified as Kavita (15), her seven-year-old relative, driver Ravindutt Yadav, and Johnny, who worked on a plastic processing machine in the godown.

Preliminary investigation suggested the fire may have been triggered after a lit bidi allegedly thrown by the driver ignited spirit from scrap perfume bottles being sorted at the warehouse.

Police said the flames spread quickly, and the victims ran towards one side of the godown but were blocked by a wall, leaving them trapped inside. They reportedly died of suffocation before the fire charred their bodies.

A woman working at the godown managed to escape, though she suffered injuries to her leg, police said.

According to officials, Ravindutt had come from Haryana to purchase plastic material at the time of the incident.

Police have detained an associate of the godown owner, Karan Singh, for questioning, while the owner is absconding.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
