Trump warns Iran oil system could ‘explode’, urges talks amid tensions

Washington, Apr 27: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, claiming that the country’s oil infrastructure could “explode” within days if crude exports remain blocked.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that disruptions caused by the US blockade on Iranian ports could lead to severe internal pressure within the oil system. He explained that if oil cannot be transported due to restrictions on shipping, the buildup could result in mechanical and underground failures with “very powerful” consequences.

He further claimed that Iran may have only a few days before such a situation arises and warned that any such damage would be irreversible.

At the same time, Trump indicated openness to negotiations, suggesting that Iranian leadership could initiate talks through established communication channels.

His remarks come amid heightened tensions following US actions aimed at pressuring Iran to accept a proposed peace deal, which includes ending its nuclear programme and ensuring access to the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil supply passes.

Iran has rejected the demands as “unreasonable” and accused the US of attempting to impose terms. In response to the blockade, Tehran has tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, a planned US diplomatic outreach involving Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff was recently called off after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded talks in Pakistan with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior leaders.

The developments underscore the fragile situation in the region, with both sides maintaining hard positions while leaving the door open for possible dialogue.
