Imphal, Apr 29: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday reiterated that lasting peace is essential for the state’s development and called on citizens to work together to restore harmony across all regions.
Speaking at an event in Imphal West district, the Chief Minister inaugurated five development projects in the Langthabal Assembly constituency, including three water supply schemes and two community halls at Naran Konjil Mayai Leikai and Naorem Leikai.

Singh said he has spent the past two months engaging with MLAs, officials, and communities across both hill and valley regions to address concerns and promote peace. His outreach has included visits to districts such as Jiribam, Senapati, Kangpokpi, and Ukhrul, where he interacted directly with residents.
He noted that people from different communities have consistently expressed a desire for normalcy and stability. At the same time, he acknowledged recent disruptions to the peace process and assured that those responsible would be identified.
Urging citizens to remain united, the Chief Minister appealed for vigilance against elements attempting to create division. He assured that development initiatives would continue across all parts of the state, including remote areas, despite ongoing challenges.
Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho praised Singh’s hands-on approach, highlighting his visits to far-flung areas and direct engagement with people. He said these efforts have been positively received and have strengthened public confidence in the government.
Dikho also called on civil society organisations and citizens to work collectively to maintain peace, warning that conflict and division would hinder progress. He stressed that achieving peace requires coordinated efforts between the government and the public.
Local MLA Karam Shyam said the newly inaugurated projects would improve access to clean drinking water and provide better community infrastructure for residents. He added that the initiatives would directly benefit daily life in the constituency.
Shyam also highlighted concerns over the poor condition of inter-village roads and urged the government to address them. He noted that some development works had previously faced legal delays but have now resumed, expressing optimism about continued progress under the current administration.
Senior officials, including Imphal West deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, were present at the event.
