Bengaluru, May 1: Recognizing the critical need for sustainable data centers to bolster industrial growth, the state government decided during a high-level ministerial meeting on Thursday, May 1, to establish dedicated data parks in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru.

The preliminary meeting, held at Shakti Bhavan, was attended by energy minister K J George, large and medium industries minister M B Patil, and IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge.

Bengaluru project details

A sustainable data center park with a capacity of 500 MW will be established near Hoskote in Bengaluru. This facility will be powered directly by solar energy supplied from Pavagada. Additionally, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has assured the supply of 60 MLD of secondary treated water. The participating industries will be responsible for the tertiary treatment of this water for their operational needs.

The ministers noted that the combined capacity of the three proposed parks is expected to reach 1,000 MW.

Expansion to Mangaluru and Mysuru

In Mangaluru, land for the data park has already been identified, with 350 acres belonging to the KIADB available in the Baikampady industrial area. Suitable land for the project will also be identified in Mysuru shortly.

The government intends to provide uninterrupted electricity and water supply to any entity investing in data center establishments within these parks. The ministers have instructed officials to begin necessary preparations and suggested organizing a meeting with potential investors soon.

Next steps

A dedicated team of ministers, including deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar, who holds the water resources portfolio, and high-ranking officials will be formed to oversee the next phase of implementation. The government aims to fast-track the establishment of these data parks to meet growing digital infrastructure demands.

Key officials, including energy and water resources secretary Gaurav Gupta, and industries department principal secretary Selvakumar, were present at the meeting.
