7-year-old Jharkhand boy swims across Palk Strait

Ranchi, May 1: Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Jharkhand has become the youngest swimmer to cross the Palk Strait, completing the 29-km stretch between Sri Lanka and India in a record time for his age category.

A Class 3 student from Ranchi, Ishank swam from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in India, completing the competition in 9 hours and 50 minutes. His achievement has been officially recognised by the Universal Records Forum.

The swim, undertaken as part of “Mission Samandar”, began early in the morning, with the young swimmer battling strong currents and rough sea conditions before reaching the Indian coast later in the day.
