India take 2-0 lead over Chinese Taipei in Thomas Cup

Horsens, May 1: India made a strong start in the quarter-final of the Thomas Cup, taking a 2-0 lead against Chinese Taipei in Horsens, Denmark on Friday.

Lakshya Sen won a thrilling opening singles match, defeating Chou Tien Chen 18-21, 22-20, 21-17 after saving two match points.

The doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty then extended India’s lead by overcoming Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin 23-21, 19-21, 21-12 in a hard-fought match.

India will look to seal the tie in the next singles match, where Ayush Shetty is set to face Lin Chun-Yi.

In the remaining fixtures, the doubles duo of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M. R. Arjun will take on Liu Kuang Heng and Yang Po-Hsuan, while Kidambi Srikanth will face Chi Yu Jen.
