Benaulim, May 3: A 21-year-old man from Benaulim is in police custody following a series of violent altercations involving his own relatives. Colva police arrested Delroy Fernandes after he allegedly launched multiple attacks on his cousin throughout a single day, leaving a trail of injuries and formal criminal charges in his wake.

The victim, Calvin Fernandes, detailed a harrowing sequence of events in his official complaint, starting on the evening of April 25 at Sernabatim beach. Calvin alleges that Delroy—the son of Benaulim panchayat members—choked him and issued death threats directed at both him and his mother. The aggression followed Calvin back to his residence later that night, where the situation escalated further. There, Delroy and an unidentified accomplice reportedly launched a second assault, using slaps, punches, and slamming Calvin’s head against a metal grill before throwing him to the ground.

When Calvin’s mother, Bernandina Silva, attempted to step in to protect her son, the accused allegedly turned his rage toward her. Police reports state that Delroy verbally abused her, pulled her hair, and shoved her to the ground. Authorities noted that this specific act amounted to an assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.

The Colva police have taken a stern stance on the incident, booking Delroy Fernandes under a wide range of serious charges, including voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, rioting, and wrongful confinement. The accused has been taken into custody as the investigation continues into the involvement of the unidentified second assailant.
