Selfie stops on expressway raise safety concerns, MSRDC warns motorists

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, May 3: The newly opened connecting link on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai–Pune Expressway has triggered safety concerns after authorities observed motorists halting vehicles to click selfies and photographs near key structures.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has issued an advisory urging commuters to avoid stopping on the expressway, stating that such actions are strictly prohibited and pose a serious risk of accidents.

According to officials, several motorists have been found pulling over near the cable-stayed bridge and tunnels since the inauguration of the connecting link, leading to potential traffic hazards.

The highway police have also notified speed limits for the stretch, setting a maximum of 100 kmph for light motor vehicles inside tunnels and 80 kmph for buses and other passenger vehicles.

Authorities said the two tunnels and two bridges on the route are under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. A dedicated control room has been established to monitor traffic movement, and details of vehicles found stopping on the expressway will be shared with highway police for action.

Motorists have been cautioned against halting for selfies, photos, or social media reels, warning that violations could attract heavy penalties while endangering both personal safety and that of other road users.

The MSRDC has appealed to commuters to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to ensure safe and smooth travel on the newly operational corridor
