Wembanyama Stars as Spurs Crush Timberwolves to level Western Conference semifinal series

Minnesota, May 7: San Antonio Spurs produced a dominant performance to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 133-95 on Wednesday night, handing Minnesota the worst postseason loss in franchise history and levelling the Western Conference semifinal series 1-1.

French sensation Victor Wembanyama led the charge with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Stephon Castle scored 21 points and De’Aaron Fox added 16 for San Antonio.

The Spurs delivered one of their most explosive playoff displays in decades, shooting 50 per cent from the field and 41 per cent from three-point range. It marked the franchise’s highest-scoring playoff outing since their 145-105 victory over Denver in 1983.

For Minnesota, Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels and Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 12 points each in an otherwise disappointing performance.

After struggling offensively in Game 1, Wembanyama and Fox bounced back strongly, combining for efficient shooting and setting the tone early as the Spurs stormed to a massive first-half lead.

Minnesota managed only 35 points before halftime, shooting below 30 per cent from the field and converting just two of their 15 attempts from beyond the arc.

San Antonio’s relentless attack continued through the second quarter, with rookie Carter Bryant and Dylan Harper contributing key plays as the Spurs extended their lead beyond 25 points.

By the final quarter, the outcome was effectively decided, with both teams resting their starters after the Spurs built a commanding 104-66 advantage.

The series now shifts to Minneapolis for Games 3 and 4, scheduled for Friday and Sunday respectively.
