Mumbai, May 9: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) on Friday evening announced the restoration of water supply in several parts of South and Central Mumbai after completing emergency repairs on a major damaged pipeline.

The disruption was caused by a 1,650-mm diameter main water pipeline on Dr E Moses Road in Mahalaxmi developing a major crack on Wednesday evening. The damage led to widespread water shortages across multiple wards, including Mumbai Central, Tardeo, Agripada, Kamathipura, and Saat Rasta.

Civic officials said repair work was carried out continuously for around 44 hours under difficult conditions, as the pipeline was located nearly 15 feet underground. Teams worked round the clock to complete the restoration ahead of schedule.

Around 40 engineers and workers from the hydraulic engineering department were deployed to fix the damaged section of the pipeline.

Following the completion of repairs, water supply began to be restored in a phased manner on Friday evening, with full normal supply expected to resume from Saturday.

Local representatives highlighted the impact of the disruption on residents. Agripada corporator Amreen Shehzad Abhrani noted that the shortage created difficulties during Friday, particularly for places of worship, where tanker water had to be arranged for routine requirements.

Officials said the situation is now stabilising as supply pressure is gradually returning to normal across affected areas.
