Mumbai, May 10: Union Commerce and Industry Minister and North Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal on Sunday launched the distribution of nutrition kits for pregnant women and mothers at a programme organised in Malad West, calling for the initiative to be expanded across the entire North Mumbai region.
The “Matru Shakti Poshan Distribution Program” was organised at Surana Hospital & Research Centre on the occasion of Mother’s Day, where nutrition kits were distributed to pregnant women and needy mothers.
According to a press release, more than 300 people attended the programme, including over 100 pregnant women. Several local leaders, social workers, community members and women beneficiaries were present at the event.

Among those who attended were BJP district president Bala Tawde, MLA Yogesh Sagar, members of the Surana family, Madesh Verma, Suman Shenar, Shivana Ji and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Goyal said the health and well-being of mothers form the foundation of a strong society and a developed India. He stressed that proper nutrition during pregnancy and after childbirth is essential for both mother and child.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently prioritised maternal and child welfare through various government schemes.
Highlighting initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Har Ghar Jal and Ayushman Bharat, Goyal said these programmes have improved the dignity, healthcare access and financial empowerment of women across the country.
He added that nutrition kit distribution initiatives should not remain confined to one locality and must reach every needy pregnant woman and mother in North Mumbai.
According to him, society, healthcare institutions and the administration should work together to ensure that economically weaker families are not deprived of maternal healthcare and nutritional support.
Goyal also said updated beneficiary lists would be maintained regularly with the support of municipal hospitals and local organisations to ensure timely assistance to deserving women.
During the programme, the Union Minister appreciated the efforts of Surana Hospital & Research Centre in serving the community through healthcare and welfare initiatives.
He said charitable healthcare institutions should function not only as treatment centres but also as institutions dedicated to social welfare and community service.
Referring to Damini Hospital and similar healthcare initiatives, Goyal said organisations engaged in charitable healthcare play a key role in supporting mothers, children and economically weaker families.
He further stated that awareness and nutrition support campaigns focused on maternal and child health would continue to be strengthened across North Mumbai.
The programme concluded with a collective commitment towards women’s welfare, maternal health and building a healthier India.
