Mumbai, May 13: Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta and the franchise on Tuesday issued a strong statement against the spread of “fake narratives” targeting the team and its players amid growing social media speculation surrounding the ongoing IPL season.
The statement comes at a time when Punjab Kings, after enjoying a dream start to the 2026 campaign, have witnessed a dip in form with four consecutive defeats, slipping out of the top two spots in the points table.

Punjab had remained unbeaten in six of their first seven matches and had also scripted history by registering the highest successful run chase in IPL history earlier this season.
However, the recent slump in performances has coincided with controversies and online discussions involving some of the team’s players. Social media was abuzz with allegations surrounding spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while comments regarding opener Prabhsimran Singh’s fitness and the players’ attitude also surfaced online.
Reacting to the developments, Preity Zinta urged people to act responsibly and avoid amplifying unverified information that could damage the reputation of individuals and the franchise.
“There’s a difference between criticism and calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not and will not be taken lightly,” Zinta posted on X.
She further appealed to media professionals and social media users to verify facts before circulating claims.
Punjab Kings also released a statement echoing similar concerns, stressing that while criticism and banter are a natural part of sport, fabricated stories created for attention were unacceptable.
“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” the franchise stated.
Despite their recent struggles, Punjab Kings remain in contention for a place in the IPL playoffs and are scheduled to face Mumbai Indians on May 14 in Dharamshala.
