Gyaneshwari Yadav wins silver, bronze for India at Asian Weightlifting Championships

Gandhinagar, May 14: India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships by clinching two medals in the women’s 53kg category on Thursday.

Gyaneshwari secured a silver medal in the snatch section and later added an overall bronze medal after recording a combined lift of 194kg.

China’s Jinlan Zhao won the gold medal in the category with a total lift of 216kg, while Vietnam’s Hoai Huong Nguyen claimed silver with an aggregate of 195kg.

Earlier in the tournament, Komal Kohar had opened India’s medal tally by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 48kg category on Monday.

The Asian Senior Championships began on Monday at the Mahatma Mandir and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar and features 178 weightlifters from 28 Asian nations along with participants from two Commonwealth countries.

The tournament also serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
