Lucknow, May 16: Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate offence during his team’s Indian Premier League clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium on Friday.
The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct after LSG failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time. According to the league statement, it was the franchise’s first over-rate violation of the season, resulting in a monetary fine on the captain.

Despite the disciplinary setback, LSG delivered a dominant performance on the field. Powered by a blistering 90 off 38 balls from Mitchell Marsh and a rapid-fire cameo from Nicholas Pooran, the team registered a commanding seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings.
Chennai Super Kings had earlier posted 187/5, with a solid knock from Kartik Sharma, who scored a career-best 71 in T20 cricket, and an unbeaten 32 from Shivam Dube. However, LSG’s bowling attack, led by Akash Singh’s three-wicket haul, restricted them after early breakthroughs.
The chase was dominated from the start as Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis stitched together a massive 135-run opening partnership, putting the opposition under immediate pressure. Marsh’s innings was particularly aggressive, featuring nine fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 236.84, before he was run out just short of a century.
After quick dismissals of key batters, Nicholas Pooran finished the job with a quick 32 off 17 balls, striking four sixes to seal the win with 20 balls remaining and dent Chennai Super Kings’ playoff hopes.
