TCS eyes top spot as global AI-led tech services firm

Mumbai, May 16: India’s largest IT services company Tata Consultancy Services has set an ambitious target to become the world’s largest AI-led technology services company, with 130 of its top 139 clients already choosing TCS as their artificial intelligence services partner.

In his letter to shareholders in the company’s annual report for 2025-26, TCS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K Krithivasan said FY26 marked an “inflection point” for enterprise AI as global customers shifted from experimental pilots to large-scale AI deployments.

“To realise the opportunities offered by AI, we set out a bold aspiration to become the world’s largest AI-led technology services company,” Krithivasan stated.

He said TCS aims to become a full-stack AI services player covering everything from infrastructure to intelligence solutions.

Krithivasan noted that 130 of TCS’ top 139 clients — companies generating more than USD 50 million annually for the firm — have already partnered with TCS for AI-related services.

To support the growing AI transition, TCS has significantly expanded employee training programmes. According to the CEO, over 2.7 lakh employees now possess advanced AI skills, nearly three times higher than the previous year.

The company also highlighted several large-scale digital projects executed in India during the financial year.

Krithivasan said TCS expanded the Government e-Marketplace into what it described as the world’s largest government e-commerce marketplace, with procurement exceeding Rs 5 lakh crore.

He also said the company upgraded YONO 2.0 of State Bank of India to support 20 crore users in 10 languages.

In addition, TCS modernised citizen-centric services including the ePassport system, through which more than one crore passports have reportedly been issued, and developed a new data management system for the Reserve Bank of India capable of handling 250 terabytes of data for advanced economic analysis.

As part of its “Build-Partner-Acquire” AI strategy, TCS recently acquired US-based firms ListEngage and Coastal Cloud, strengthening its position among the world’s top five Salesforce consultants.

Krithivasan also highlighted the launch of ‘HyperVault’, the company’s AI infrastructure venture in partnership with TPG. The initiative aims to establish one gigawatt of AI-focused data centre capacity in India to meet growing demand for AI computing infrastructure.

Looking ahead, he said enterprises adopting AI at scale would increasingly require a unified “AI Operating System” to make AI deployment more repeatable, manageable and secure.

Krithivasan added that TCS would focus on building industry-specific AI systems, developing India’s first high-density AI data centre, expanding its “Infrastructure to Intelligence” offerings through 3,600 partnerships, and strengthening sovereign AI infrastructure capabilities.
