Mumbai, May 17: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) on Saturday removed unauthorised temporary structures and turf installations at the Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Mulund, acting within 24 hours of a site inspection by civic and political representatives.
The operation was conducted by the civic body’s T Ward office following complaints of irregularities flagged during a review meeting held on Thursday at Mahakavi Kalidas Natyamandir. The meeting focused on redevelopment and improvement work at the sports complex and surrounding facilities.

The inspection was led by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde along with former Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya, after which civic authorities initiated action against the unauthorised installations.
Officials said the demolition targeted illegal temporary setups and turf structures that were found within the sports complex premises. They also indicated that further enforcement action is likely as the civic review of the site continues.
The BMC stated that the drive is part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with development norms and remove encroachments from public recreational spaces.
