Patna, May 24: A tense situation unfolded in Bihar’s Patna district after a disagreement reportedly triggered by a social media post escalated into alleged firing during a village council meeting in Nauranga-Jalalpur under the Panchmahla Police Station limits.
Officials said the controversy began after a post shared on social media by Mukesh Kumar — believed to be the current PACS president and a representative of the village sarpanch — allegedly upset members of another faction in the village.

In an effort to defuse tensions and settle the matter peacefully, a Panchayat meeting was organised on Saturday. However, discussions between the two groups reportedly turned heated, and soon after, several rounds of firing were allegedly heard at the venue.
The sudden gunfire created panic among villagers present at the meeting, resulting in chaos and a stampede-like situation. Authorities have not confirmed any injuries so far.
Police officials stated that they are still verifying the exact sequence of events, including the number of rounds fired and the identities of those involved. Security has been strengthened in the village to prevent further unrest.
Following the incident, teams from Panchmahla Police Station and nearby police units rushed to the area and initiated an investigation. Sources said raids are being carried out at the homes and possible hideouts of two local youths who are currently under suspicion in the case.
Authorities added that efforts are underway to identify every person linked to the firing and restore peace in the region.
Nauranga-Jalalpur has remained a sensitive area since a major firing incident on January 23, 2025, involving Janata Dal (United) MLA Anant Singh and the Sonu-Monu gang, during which more than 200 rounds were allegedly exchanged.
The village is known as the native place of Sonu and Monu Singh. According to reports, Anant Singh had visited the village earlier this year in connection with a property dispute involving a house allegedly occupied by the gang.
A day after the January incident, Anant Singh surrendered before the Barh Sub-Divisional Court and was later sent to judicial custody. He is currently lodged in Beur Jail, while Sonu Singh and Monu Singh were also arrested in connection with the case.
