Berlin, May 24: Harry Kane delivered a sensational second-half hat-trick as Bayern Munich defeated VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal final, ending their long wait for Germany’s premier domestic cup.
The win secured Bayern Munich’s 21st DFB-Pokal title and completed a domestic double, following their Bundesliga triumph earlier this season. It also marked their first German Cup victory since 2020.
For Bayern Munich, it was a record-extending season in domestic football, with the club lifting the Bundesliga title for a 35th time and the DFB-Pokal for the 21st time. The achievement also marked the 14th domestic double in the club’s history.
Harry Kane was the decisive figure in a tense final played at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Stuttgart began the match with intensity, pressing Bayern high and creating early chances, while Bayern struggled to find rhythm despite dominating possession.
The breakthrough came in the 55th minute after a quick restart following a foul on Michael Olise. Harry Kane met a cross from the right and headed home to give Bayern the lead.
The match was briefly disrupted later due to pyrotechnics from both sets of supporters, with smoke affecting visibility inside the stadium. Once play resumed, Bayern gradually took control as Stuttgart’s earlier momentum faded.
Kane sealed the contest in the 80th minute, combining with Luis Díaz before finishing calmly past the Stuttgart defence. He then completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, converting a penalty after a handball by Angelo Stiller during a clearance attempt.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany praised his side’s resilience, saying they grew into the match after a difficult first half and delivered a near-perfect final performance.
Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß expressed disappointment, noting that his side had matched Bayern for long spells but failed to sustain their level after the hour mark.
Despite a strong start from Stuttgart, Bayern Munich’s experience and Kane’s clinical finishing ultimately decided the final, sealing a dominant end to their domestic campaign.
