Dhule (Maharashtra), May 25: At least six people lost their lives and 26 others were injured in a devastating multi-vehicle accident on the Mumbai-Agra Highway near Laling Ghat in Maharashtra’s Dhule district early Monday morning, officials said.

According to preliminary information, the accident began when a dumper truck collided with another heavy vehicle on the highway.

As toll plaza staff and local residents rushed to help the injured and clear the scene, a passenger bus travelling from Madhya Pradesh allegedly lost control and rammed into the damaged vehicles.

Officials said the second collision was extremely severe and resulted in multiple casualties, including the death of a toll employee who was actively participating in rescue operations at the site.

Police confirmed that six people, including the toll worker, died in the incident, while 26 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Emergency response teams and police personnel quickly reached the spot after receiving information about the accident. The injured were rescued and shifted to the District Hospital for treatment.

The accident caused major disruption to traffic movement on the Mumbai-Agra Highway for several hours as rescue work and vehicle clearance operations continued.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Meanwhile, in another tragic road accident in Maharashtra earlier in the day, eight people were killed after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) plunged into a deep gorge in Raigad district. Rescue operations are still underway, with teams facing difficulties due to the steep terrain and depth of the valley.
