Indian women win 10 medals at U-17 Asian Wrestling Championships

Da Nang, Jun 1: India's women wrestlers delivered an impressive performance at the Under-17 Asian Wrestling Championships in Vietnam, winning a total of 10 medals, including two gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Leading India's medal charge, Diksha clinched the gold medal in the 43kg category, while Garima emerged champion in the 73kg category with dominant victories in their respective finals.

India secured three silver medals through Nikita in the 49kg category, Antra in the 65kg category and Taniya in the 69kg category.

Taniya settled for silver after losing a closely contested final against Khadisha Flyuk, while Nikita and Antra also finished runners-up in their respective title bouts.

The country's bronze medals came through Palak in the 40kg category, Anamika in the 46kg category, Akshra in the 53kg category, Sakshi in the 57kg category and Manya in the 61kg category.

Meanwhile, India also enjoyed success at the U-23 Asian Wrestling Championships, where the men's freestyle team emerged overall champions.

The Indian team topped the freestyle standings to lift the team title, finishing ahead of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, which secured second and third places respectively.

The strong performances at both championships underline India's growing stature in Asian wrestling and continue the country's impressive run in international competitions.
