Udupi, Jun 4: Five gram panchayats from Udupi district have been selected for the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sustainable Development Awards instituted by the Central government. Among the six gram panchayats from Karnataka chosen for the awards in various categories, five are from Udupi district.
The award-winning gram panchayats are Mudradi and Madamakki in Hebri taluk, Vandse and Hakladi in Kundapur taluk, Sanoor in Karkala taluk, and Halanayakanahalli Gram Panchayat in Bengaluru. The awards were presented by union Panchayati Raj minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh along with other ministers and officials.

Mudradi gram panchayat was selected for the Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihood Panchayat Award and received a cash prize of Rs 1 crore. The award was received by gram panchayat PDO Subhash Kharvi, former PDO Sadashiva Sheregar, Udupi taluk panchayat EO Vijaya, and Belve gram panchayat secretary Amrutha Kulal.
Madamakki gram panchayat was selected for the Sustainable Drinking Water Scheme Award and received a cash prize of Rs 75 lac. The award was received by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Hebri taluk panchayat EO Prashanth Rao, and gram panchayat PDO Ritesh Puthran.
Vandse gram panchayat was selected for the Health Services Award and received a cash prize of Rs 75 lac. The award was received by Udupi zilla panchayat chief executive officer Prateek Boyal, gram panchayat PDO Poornima, and Aluru PDO Roopa Gopi.
Hakladi gram panchayat was selected for the Social Justice and Social Security Panchayat Award and received a cash prize of Rs 25 lac.
The award was received by Kundapur taluk planning officer Satish Vaddarse, Byndoor taluk planning officer Suresh, and gram panchayat PDO Chandra Billava.
Sanoor gram panchayat was selected for the Infrastructure Development Award and received a cash prize of Rs 25 lac. The award was received by Udupi zilla panchayat planning officer Udaya Kumar Shetty, chief accounts officer Nishchith Hegde, SDG planning officer Anil Shetty, Kaup taluk panchayat EO Vijay, and gram panchayat PDO Vishwanath.
