Kasargod, Jun 5: The vigilance department conducted a surprise raid at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Kasargod, unearthing bundles of bribe money hidden inside flower pots placed outside the office.

The operation was led by vigilance deputy superintendent of police Unnikrishnan. During the raid, officials found Rs 17,150 concealed beneath the flower pots in front of the RTO.

The raid was initiated following several complaints to the vigilance department that no work was being processed at the Kasargod RTO without the involvement of middlemen and the payment of bribes.

During the operation, officials confiscated various vehicle-related applications, requests submitted along with cash through agents, and important documents meant for eligible citizens.

Due to persistent complaints that office staff and agents were extorting bribes from the public and that work was exclusively handled through these agents, simultaneous raids were carried out at both the Kasargod and Kanhangad RTOs. Several vehicle-related documents, applications, and other records were also seized from the Kanhangad office.
